Trade license Dubai
A Dubai trade license defines what your company is allowed to do, where it is licensed, and which authority regulates it. The wrong activity or license route can affect invoices, banking, visas, approvals and renewal.
What it is
A trade license is the official document allowing a company to conduct approved activities in Dubai. Mainland licenses come from DET / Invest in Dubai; free-zone licenses from the relevant authority. Both must match your activity, clients, legal form, office, visas, banking and tax profile.
License types
Do not choose the license type by title alone — the exact activity wording matters.

"I sell online"
Marketplace, own inventory, dropshipping, import/export, portal, payment gateway or local delivery?
"I trade goods"
General trading, specific product, customs, warehouse, import/export or local distribution?
"I do real estate"
Brokerage, property management, holiday homes, development, consultancy or RERA approvals?

Approval signals
This is a scoping tool, not an approvals list. Confirm the exact activity and regulator position before a name, facility or package is paid for.
Online sales, import or delivery
Product category, customs, stockholding, marketplace, payment and delivery model
A simple online-sales description may not explain how goods enter, are stored or reach UAE customers
Food, restaurant or catering
Premises, food-safety and municipality requirements alongside the licensed activity
The customer-facing operation and physical site matter as much as the commercial licence title
Real-estate services
Whether the work is brokerage, property management, holiday homes, development or consultancy
Each description can have different regulatory, training or operating conditions
Health, education or training
The relevant health or education authority and any professional qualifications
A general consultancy licence is not a substitute for sector permission
Finance, payments, crypto or investment activity
Whether VARA, DFSA, SCA, CBUAE or another regulator perimeter is engaged
The regulatory analysis must happen before an operating licence is treated as sufficient

A Dubai trade license is the official approval allowing a company to conduct specified activities through either the mainland or a free-zone licensing route.
Trading points to commercial, services to professional, manufacturing to industrial, and regulated activities to specialist approvals.
Often yes, but combinations, limits, license type, authority rules, external approvals and additional fees must be checked.
No. A free-zone license is issued by a free-zone authority; a mainland license is issued through DET / Invest in Dubai. Mainland access, premises, visas and rules differ.
Many licenses can be amended, but changes may require fees, approvals, documents, activity review and bank or tax updates. Choosing the right activity at setup is better.
